On June 21, the Messiah Respite Project provided a meaningful afternoon of connection, celebration, and God’s comforting presence. Designed to give caregivers of those with memory loss a well-deserved break, the day was filled with music, birthday celebrations, and joyful engagement for participants. With the help of 35 dedicated volunteers, the event created uplifting moments for all involved. Music was provided by Ella Wemhoff, and they celebrated June birthdays for Dave Fredrickson and Tyler Popp—complete with two homemade birthday cakes baked by Judy DeGraff.
This month’s gathering was marked by something extra special: they welcomed a new participant who, in a Spirit-filled moment, began leading everyone in song to “Jesus Loves Me.” The participant started singing at such a perfect time—it was a moment only God could orchestrate. Dementia may affect memory, but not the gift to remember songs of His love. They also welcomed two new attendees to the caregiver support group, further extending the sense of support and encouragement the ministry provides.
This event is a reminder that God is at work—even in the midst of memory loss. He continues to create moments of connection and worship in ways that only He can. We are so grateful for everyone who makes Messiah Respite Project possible and invite you to join us for our next event on August 23. Whether you come to volunteer, participate, or simply witness God’s presence in action, you’ll be blessed. God is in charge, and His miracles shine even through the challenges of dementia.
