Outreach Ministry

Home in a Box

Started back in 2016, Home in a Box has grown to touch the lives of over 60 families each year.  We partner with other businesses and non-profit organizations in town to identify people that are leaving homelessness and moving into their first permanent dwelling.  We provide basic furnishings for them, to make their new space feel like a home.  We’ve expanded to also provide some bags of groceries, prepared meals, and the dishes needed for them to enjoy that food.  We’re working with Trinity Lutheran church, which is located in an area closer to where most of the people are finding homes, to help them connect to a spiritual family that is close to their new home.  We’re always looking for donations of household items and you can contact Gene Troester for more information.

Royal Family Kids Camp

This camp is a place where kids from abusive and neglectful homes can enjoy a week of being loved.  When a kid goes to Royal Family KIDS camp, they receive the attention and encouragement of an adult camp counselor and his/her “buddy camper”.  In addition, each camper is exposed to a variety of fun activities, designed for their success and to build self-esteem.  For most of these children, it’s the best week of the year – a special time when they can focus on having fun and enjoy being a kid.

Messiah has been involved with Royal Family KIDS since it launched in Lincoln in 2001.  There are four other churches in Lincoln that partner with us to make this camp/club/mentorship ministry work.  It takes 75-85 volunteers to put on the camp during a week in the summer.  Donors are also needed to donate clothes for the dress-up birthday party, drive people to camp, donate money and bathe the camp in prayer.

Days for Girls
Days for Girls changes lives by providing washable, reusable feminine hygiene kits to girls and women all over the world.  These kits allow girls to stay in school all month long, assisting them in pursuing their dreams and reaching their goals.   The Lincoln chapter of Days for Girls meets at Messiah on the second Monday evening and second Tuesday afternoon of each month to make these kits.  For more information, or to donate fabric, sewing machines or sergers,  please email Wendy Rich.(402-202-4990) or Kathy Carter (402-416-8953)
