What to Expect on a Sunday Morning

We are one big family at Messiah!

Messiah is a church that stays true to God’s unchanging Word, in a setting that is genuine and real. Come as you are to worship, and you’ll fit right in. You’ll see some men wearing jackets and ladies in dresses, while others are in casual tops with jeans or shorts. Don’t be surprised to find people hanging around for quite a while before and after our services, as we love to laugh, smile and catch up on life’s happenings on Sunday mornings.

FORWARD IN FAITH

In 2020, Messiah will open its largest ever expansion!
We are excited to share what God is doing at Messiah with you.

Ministry Stories

Messiah School’s Give To Lincoln Day Donations Totaled $33,525!

For Give to Lincoln Day, we hoped to raise funds to help us buy classroom items that had to be cut from our Forward in Faith budget. We’re excited about new classrooms for our teachers and students, and hoped we could replace many of the aging items in their current classrooms. We knew we didn’t have enough money available to replace everything, but prayed that God would provide.

We hoped to raise at least $10,000 to help with the purchase of new furnishings, but God rained down blessings on us by providing more than 3 times our goal! Our final tally for donations was $33,525!

But wait… That’s not all! We will also receive a proportional share of the $500,000 match fund made possible by Lincoln Community Foundation and generous sponsors of Give To Lincoln Day.

Thanks to all who were able to donate! We look forward to sharing pictures of our new school, complete with beautiful furnishings, during the summer.

Who are your neighbors?

From Cris Gittins:

Our 3 neighbor girls have been coming to help with VBS for several years. They couldn’t wait until they were old enough to assist with VBS!

This fall they started helping with our 3rd grade class on Wednesday evenings. They have attended some of our Lenten and Advent services since they were little. Putting together the Blessing care kits is also something they look forward to.

For many years this has been their church family. While it may not look like the “church experience“ many of us have, Messiah has provided ways for Sofie, Alexa and Ava to know Jesus and see faith in action. I am so thankful for the people who have welcomed and included them.

Their dad died unexpectedly in March and I am grateful that there will be people from Messiah to offer words of comfort and encouragement to them when we are all back together. Thank you for giving them the chance to be part of a family of faith.

A New Purpose for Such a Time as This

Matthew 17:20 If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to the mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.

The Pandemic has not slowed the Mustard Seed/Days for Girls Work Group. It has changed how we operate though, since we are unable to gather together for our workdays.

Co-leaders Wendy Rich and Kathy Carter have been delivering fabric so our wonderful 109 volunteers can measure, pin, cut, sew and serge from their own homes.

Our ministry continues outside the walls of the church – porch to porch, and person to person. We use safe distancing and best practices when handling and exchanging supplies.

We continue to make infant kits and reusable feminine hygiene kits because those needs continue during the pandemic. However, we are also called to a new purpose for a time like this – just as Queen Esther was called for her time in history.

In April, Dr. Doug Tewes contacted Wendy Rich, requesting cloth masks for his nursing staff at Lincoln Orthopaedic Center. Wendy developed a pattern and researched the best fabric to use. Within days, over 25 servants made 200 masks!

We were able to use Thrivent Action Project money to purchase fabric and thread. To date, we’ve made over 700 masks for local clinics, the Friendship Home, nursing homes, retirement centers, UNL essential workers, Tabitha Home Health, as well as for friends and neighbors.

We always have a place and purpose for more volunteers if you feel called. For more information, contact Wendy Rich 402.202.4990 or Kathy Carter 402.416.8953.
