What to Expect on a Sunday Morning

We are one big family at Messiah!

Messiah is a church that stays true to God’s unchanging Word, in a setting that is genuine and real. Come as you are to worship, and you’ll fit right in. You’ll see some men wearing jackets and ladies in dresses, while others are in casual tops with jeans or shorts. Don’t be surprised to find people hanging around for quite a while before and after our services, as we love to laugh, smile and catch up on life’s happenings on Sunday mornings.

In 2020, Messiah will open its largest ever expansion!
We are excited to share what God is doing at Messiah with you.

Ministry Stories

Men’s Steak Night

From John Radway
Five of my guests at Steak Night this year have come for many years in a row. I’m blessed to meet with most of them in a mentoring relationship. Two of the men and I had previously discussed a book we could go through. At Steak Night they were moved to pick out a couple of books that were available so we can continue to grow in our roles as mentors and dads. God is blessing many men through the ministries of Messiah.

Days for Girls Kits Change Women’s Lives

Days for Girls International is a nonprofit that has helped a million women and girls in over 125 countries. We learned about Days for Girls prior to a Messiah mission trip to Tanzania last year, and completed training in order to teach women and girls about their menstrual cycle and hygiene, and distribute washable, reusable Days for Girls feminine hygiene kits.

We taught our first class with the Massai tribe women under an acacia tree, and two other classes in the secondary schools in the Mgundai village. When we returned from Africa, Wendy Rich and I felt the Holy Spirit start a fire in our hearts. We began working with Ann, who leads a Days for Girls group in Omaha, to learn the process of creating and sewing kits.

These kits include a beautiful drawstring cloth bag, a zip-lock bag, soap, 2 pairs of underwear, 2 shields, 8 trifold pads, a menstrual diary, and a washcloth. Days for Girls kits last 3-5 years. With 1 1/3 yards of fabric, a kit will give back to a girl 180 days over 3 years: days in school, days of income, days of dignity and days of living.

We welcome all volunteers even if you don’t sew. Contact Kathy Carter for more info 402.416.8953.

Our Continuing Ministry Partnership with Gleanings for the Hungry

Messiah has had a partnership with Gleanings for the Hungry since the first youth trip there in 2006.  Since that time, we’ve sent 15 groups there, with our 16th group arriving today, and plans for our 17th group happening between services in the youth room on Sunday, June 9.  There have been 297 unique individuals that have gone on a trip to Gleanings and God has done fantastic things through those who have gone.

During the trip happening this week, our youth will help process well over 500,000 lbs. of peaches, turning them into tons of dried fruit.  That fruit is distributed to hungry people around the world by God’s servants and missionaries who share the gospel message as they meet the physical needs of the people.
In January, we’re planning to send our second group of adults to Gleanings.  They’ll primarily help package a dried soup mix, which has grown from its infancy when we started our partnership with Gleanings, to where Gleanings volunteers are now producing more soup mix than peaches.
Thank you for your continued prayerful support of our Gleanings volunteers, the Gleanings missionaries and the people who are touched by the Holy Spirit when they receive the food from Gleanings.
