What to Expect on a Sunday Morning

We are one big family at Messiah!

Messiah is a church that stays true to God’s unchanging Word, in a setting that is genuine and real. Come as you are to worship, and you’ll fit right in. You’ll see some men wearing jackets and ladies in dresses, while others are in casual tops with jeans or shorts. Don’t be surprised to find people hanging around for quite a while before and after our services, as we love to laugh, smile and catch up on life’s happenings on Sunday mornings.

FORWARD IN FAITH

In 2020, Messiah will open its largest ever expansion!
We are excited to share what God is doing at Messiah with you.

Ministry Stories

King Lake

Shown in the above photo is a woman whose home was inundated with water during the floods a year ago. As a result, her entire home had to be cleaned out down to the studs and outside finish.

A week before this photo was taken, this house was unlivable—insulation rolls, extra lumber, boarded up windows, and exposed new wiring in the ceiling. Messiah’s teams have since hung the sheetrock, installed windows, and insulated the walls during those two Saturdays.

When the owner came in just before this photo was taken and saw the walls taking shape, she just covered her face, and amid her tears, kept saying, Thank you! Oh, Thank you!

There is a lot yet to be done to this home, but with God providing the help of volunteers from Messiah and other churches and organizations, this and the more than 30 other homes like it, will be rebuilt. There is still plenty of need for Good Samaritans—no experience necessary!

Special Guests at Days for Girls

Kathy Carter gave a presentation about Days for Girls feminine hygiene kits in January at the Good Neighbor Center, to a group of 13 Arabic women after their English language class. These women were so excited to hear about the Days for Girls organization and our Lincoln Chapter. Our Days for Girls chapter sews beautiful, reusable, feminine hygiene items, and assemble kits for women and girls around the world who don’t have access to these items.

One woman from Morocco said that similarly, these were what they used in her country. Two other women shared that they knew firsthand of the value of these kits, as they had been in refugee camps and had nothing to use when they had their menstrual cycle. Days for Girls just sent 46,000 kits to refugee camps in the Middle East this past fall.

Some of the Arabic women from the English language class joined our sewing group in February to make kits with us as well as to practice their English!

Visitors to the Tuesday Bible Class

Look who visited the Tuesday morning women’s Bible study group this week! The group is studying Psalm 23, The Shepherd with Me by Jennifer Rothschild, so an object lesson was in order. Cheryl Johnson, their owner, explained to the group how sheep really do distinguish the voice of their shepherd from other voices (John 10).

The Tuesday Bible study group was formed in 2003 with 15 members; today 41 women gather to study God’s Word. They currently meet in the sanctuary from 9 to 11 each Tuesday, dividing into smaller groups for discussion. The location will likely change when the new building with its bigger meeting rooms is completed. We have plenty of room for new members no matter where we’re meeting!
